Exact controllability of complex networks
Controlling complex networks is of paramount importance in science and engineering. Despite the recent development of structural controllability theory, we continue to lack a framework to control undirected complex networks, especially given link weights. Here we introduce an exact controllability paradigm based on the maximum multiplicity to identify the minimum set of driver nodes required to...
متن کاملExact controllability of multiplex networks
We develop a general framework to analyze the controllability of multiplex networks using multiple-relation networks and multiple-layer networks with interlayer couplings as two classes of prototypical systems. In the former, networks associated with different physical variables share the same set of nodes and in the latter, diffusion processes take place. We find that, for a multiplerelation n...
متن کاملPhysical controllability of complex networks
A challenging problem in network science is to control complex networks. In existing frameworks of structural or exact controllability, the ability to steer a complex network toward any desired state is measured by the minimum number of required driver nodes. However, if we implement actual control by imposing input signals on the minimum set of driver nodes, an unexpected phenomenon arises: du...
متن کاملControllability of Complex Networks : Supplementary Information
This Supplementary Information is organized as follows. In Sec. II, we clarify the fundamental differences between our work and previous research on network controllability. In Sec. III, we give a short introduction to the structural control theory, which can be simply applied to directed networks. The reasons why we focus on linear dynamics are given in Sec. III A. Some simple examples in Sec....
متن کاملControllability of complex networks via pinning.
We study the problem of controlling a general complex network toward an assigned synchronous evolution by means of a pinning control strategy. We define the pinning controllability of the network in terms of the spectral properties of an extended network topology. The roles of the control and coupling gains, as well as of the number of pinned nodes, are also discussed.
